Dubai, September 12, 2026 — Dubai Municipality has rolled out a new smart robot to carry out geospatial surveys across the emirate, marking a major step in the city’s push toward automated, data-driven urban management.
Advanced Technology for Field Data Collection
The robot combines LiDAR technology with smart cameras to collect accurate location data with limited human intervention, continuously gathering field information including precise coordinates, panoramic images, video and three-dimensional data. Unlike traditional survey methods, which are often limited to flat, two-dimensional records, the robot’s outputs include detailed 3D models and data covering building façades, adding long-term value for engineering, planning and geospatial work. Madhyamam
Proven Results at Wadi Al Amardi
The technology has already been put to the test at the Wadi Al Amardi Housing Project for UAE nationals, where the results were striking. Deploying the robot at the site cut cumulative customer waiting time by 472 days and saved the equivalent of 24 fieldwork days and 40 hours of office work during surveys of completed homes. Improving Safety and Efficiency
Beyond speed and cost, officials say the robot is designed to protect surveying staff. By reducing the need for surveyors to enter difficult-to-access locations, the robot improves occupational safety while increasing productivity and data quality. Madhyamam
